Amelia Owen
LPC
I specialize in working with clients who have experienced trauma, be it physical/emotional/sexual abuse, neglect, witnessing or being a victim of crime or family/community violence, natural disasters, chronic/terminal illnesses or medical trauma, or war/terrorism. I take a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to working with adults and families.
As long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for helping others. My friends always came to me with their problems, and I was very blessed to be able to care for my loved ones when they were ill. I became fascinated with human behavior, motivations, thoughts, and emotions when I was a teenager and decided I wanted to work in the field of psychology. In college, I learned that many people’s issues stem from their childhood, so I decided to change my studies from psychology to education to be a teacher—a key part of children’s lives—with hopes of helping them become healthy individuals. I returned to school to get the education and training required to be a therapist. The experience of being an educator has helped me be a better therapist in countless ways, mainly through understanding how we learn.
